    Jazz fans are in for a treat this weekend with two concerts coming up by the Daniel Tilling and Andreas Thermos Quartet, also featuring Cypriot talents Ireneos Koulouras on bass and George Koulas on drums.

    Following the success of last year’s tour with the exceptional pianist Daniel Tilling (Sweden), the group is appearing again this month in Greece and in Cyprus at Jazzy B in Limassol (17 Feb) and the Weaving Mill in Nicosia (18 Feb). With an emphasis on contemporary Jazz the group will be presenting their own new material as well as Jazz Standards.

Daniel Tilling

DANIEL TILLING is a talented pianist who handles the Jazz form with ease. He has been influenced by the style of Wynton Kelly as well as Kenny Kirkland and more contemporary figures including Brad Mehldau. He has collaborated with and recorded the work of notable artists from the American and Swedish Jazz scenes, including Joe Lovano, Ron Blake, Herbie Hancock, Rigmore Gustafsson and Victoria Tolsty.

The cooperation and friendship between Cypriot bass player IRENEOS KOULOURAS and saxophonist Andreas Thermos has been strong for many years. Since they were students at the Berklee College of Music in Boston they have appeared together in a number of international venues and festivals. Ireneos has studied with Ron Carter and Charlie Banacos and regularly played in New York, Boston and other cities in America with various jazz and ethnic music groups. Apart from teaching and playing regularly in Cyprus and abroad, he recently collaborated with Ellie Paspala and David Lynch on a musical programme based on the work of the great Manos Hadjidakis. 

Based in Greece, ANDREAS THERMOS started playing the piano at age 6 and saxophone at 12. He was awarded a scholarship for Berklee where he studied with George Garzone, Billy Pierce, Jerry Bergonzi and Hal Crook, among others. He was selected in 2000 to play in the Berklee International Network under Garry Burton. He has performed at the Euro Jazz Festival (Athens) και at Dimitria (Thessaloniki) representing England. He organized and participated in the four-day Jazz Festival in Lefkada, and while collaborating with Takis Farazi, he is preparing material for recording soon.  

GEORGE KOULAS' musical studies have taken him from Bonn to Boston to Rotterdam and he has learned from figures including Alan Dowson, Jon Hazila, Skip Hadden and Dave Dicenso. He is an accomplished drummer and teacher who has played and recorded with Cypriot and international artists including: George Dalaras, the Cyprus State Orchestra, Diastasis, Faidros Kavallaris and Blink. In 2003 he formed the Ireneos Trio and the Havana Session band, with whom he performs regularly in Cyprus and abroad with other musicians including Offer Ganor, Andreas Georgiu, Evagoras Karageorgis, Jens Kerkoff, Eric Durrer, Lukas van Merwijk, Gilad Azmond. George is also co-organiser of the annual Pomos Jazz Festival on the west coast of Cyprus.
